Dear Blog,
Well, much has transpired since I last wrote. My apologies for not updating sooner, for myriad crucial details have most likely been forgotten.
The White Stripes rocked spectacularly, but Coldplay quite simply was breathtaking. Yay for me being able to drive to the amphitheater. Of course Matt "accompanied" me, so I wasn't quite so freaked out to be driving to a place I'd never been to before. While standing in line at the portable bathroom, a freaking yellow jacket stung my toe. Then we had to throw some scrumptious homemade cookies in the trash 'cause the amphitheater is a bit neurotic about people bringing in affordable consumables. The shirts were a way inflated $35, but that didn't stop me from buying one. I also obtained a White Stripes shirt (a tiger and gazelle in black and white and red - YES) for a more reasonable $25.
Anywho, they (Coldplay) rock out way more in person, and Chris Martin has an endearing sense of humor that is not captured on their albums. We got awesome seats! It was definitely worth the price. Every one of their songs sounded better live, which I believe is pretty impressive. Chris Martin is also an awesome performer..he used the entire space of the stage and it was an impressively dynamic performance. Spiffy lights and video system as well. All the old favorites (Clocks, The Scientist, Don't Panic, Yellow, etc.) were performed as well as the majority of tunes from X&Y. At Yellow's start, a crew in the balcony shoved a couple dozen giant round yellow balloons over the rail into the crowd. They were filled with small pieces of crate paper. For the duration these drifting spheres were floating about. At the conclusion of the song, Chris Martin prompted the audience to pop them (he was actually quite adamant about this) and he ended up attacking one with a guitar. During Politik he managed to incorporate "Ducks and Beavers," and during the first line of..I forget which song..he screwed up and kinda muttered a profanity and started laughing. He said a lot of popular band members have Brad Pitt-ish bodies but "can't sing worth shit," while he insulted his own and the band's appearance (the only advantage the lawn people had was their lack of good view of them). However, they "sing like f 'in angels."
At the conclusion of the concert we were stuck in the parking lot for in excess of an hour. We passed four cars just getting to mine with Coldplay tunes drifting out the windows. I slept in and went to work a bit late yesterday.
All in all, a grand time was had.
Last weekend Tim and mom and I camped at a smallish lake and our neighbors happened to be a half dozen Russian ruffians toting pistols. Interesting to say the least. I captured an impressive quantity of crayfish and found a dragonfly that had just emerged from its, as Luke would say, "husk." Oh yes, we brought Bosun. His maiden camping voyage. He whined a ton for no obvious reason in the morning. Other than that he seemed to be a happy camper, especially around dinner time (rarely is Bosun allowed to partake of barbecued steak). After packing up we visited another lake, so I waded in the thigh-deep muck a sixth of the way around and found a '66 pepsi bottle buried.
Sheesh, summer is simmering down. And I so don't want to go back to homework and not-so-good food. Tomorrow I am goin' to the movie in the park! I've been waiting for it. This time I'm actually motivated to go because there's nothing going on. Work has been work. I won some promising CDs on ebay..Dandy Warhols, Incubus, Oasis, Blind Melon, and Phantom Planet's first. I must start mulling mp3 players.
