Ok. An experience with another's blog has prompted me to write this thing. So here goes.

I am just letting people know that I am against extremist animal rights groups. I do however believe in conservation and wildlife management.
I don't like the idea of people who know nothing about animals voting to ban trapping and hunting. People living in cities who really know nothing about animals probably assume that all hunting and trapping is bad and barbaric and know none of the rules involved and the movement to improve traps and hunting (live traps, leghold traps that will not even damage an animal's skin, the mandatory trap checking laws and strict hunting guidelines to make the taking of an animal as swift and humane as possible, etc.) They might think "The animals are too cute. Let's stop all medical research, hunting, fishing, trapping, the raising of animals for food, pet stores cause they sell mice for snake food, wool, fur, leather...no animal products whatsoever!"

Well. If we want to have wild spaces with animals we must manage wildlife populations. People in urban areas with wildlife problems or those that live in the country and expect nothing but the fake world of Bambi and cute little critters hopefully will learn this. They will have coyotes killing their cats, or raccoons eating their pet ducks, or mice spreading diseases in their kitchens..eventually these things happen. As urban sprawl takes over forests, and people have to have their views and property and houses, the wildlife will not and cannot continue to shy away from development. They are not going to stay totally wild within increasingly smaller wild habitat. They're not going to stay where we want them to. They move in and create problems. Deer cause car accidents, which kill the deer and sometimes people. Cougars and bobcats kill pets. Beavers chew down fruit trees.

Everyone wants a perfect world. A world in which wildlife doesn't have to be dealt with. A world without any problems. That's not reality. People can go on complaining about wildlife conflicts, and keep on voting to ban trapping and hunting and other forms of management. Or those that live in huge cities and haven't had contact with wildlife can assume that hunting and trapping are no good. They're not doing themselves or the wildlife a favor.

We can't not kill any animals. Their populations become too dense given their now limited space because of us, diseases spread quickly, they die off slowly, or they get run over. There's a lack of habitat any way you look at it. I believe that hunting and trapping help to control populations. This prevents more human/animal conflicts and wildlife populations from becoming too dense in a certain area.

If you don't support hunting or trapping, why? Do you have lots of first hand knowledge or experience of these activities? Not all hunters do illegal things. They're not all out to kill animals illegally. Many are just out to enjoy the outdoors or provide food for their families. I know mine is a biased opinion. No, people should not believe everything they read or are told. It is good to read the anti views, the pro views, the undecided views, and have first hand knowledge or experience before making decisions. This is a pro view from someone with first hand experience in trapping and hunting. If I can change someone's mind, or open someone's mind to a new idea, this blog will not have been for nothing.

Ok, that's my huge rant. I want to thank whoever has taken the time to read my blog.
