My first two high school presentations are finished, and surprisingly I wasn't nervous once I got there. I presented in Mr. Kelly's advanced biology classes - 2nd and 3rd periods.
High schoolers are substantially less intimidating than college students and professors. It was almost ridiculous what a marked difference there is between the high school and college atmosphere...most everyone was chatty, and a test was on the schedule for the day so in each class at least one student literally came up to talk to the teacher with an "I've studied a lot but I still don't feel ready, can we just push the test back?" request (half serious too, I think)...the second time this happened, Mr. Kelly looked at me and said, "what would happen if we were in college?" to which I replied with a chuckle and a soft "it wouldn't happen," as in, the request would never be voiced, at least not without obvious jest. To this the concerned girl retreated to her desk talking of being made fun of. It was superbly entertaining. And of course there were the high school boys just talking away in an attempt to attract someone's attention. Honestly I didn't know it would be so remarkably distinct.
It felt rather satisfying walking down the halls like I owned the place. After all, I put up with four years there during my most shy and self-conscious period...I figured I deserved to have a slightly narcissistic attitude. It's like yeah...I don't have to worry about high school trends and how far I'm deviating from them anymore. I'm no longer a part of this materialistic/looksist society (but damn I look so much better than I did in high school). I saw Mr. Iremonger still at work in the computer lab teaching typing skills, probably computer applications (the second most useful class I took next to advanced bio.). I also ran into Mr. Case, who still knew my name. We shook hands and chatted briefly, so that was cool.
I went to grammy's after my first presentation but had too little time to go out for lunch so we munched on grapes and I went back after my second go at it and dined at Bette's. I had an excellent grilled vegetarian sandwich with a salad.
I came home and zoned out for a while on the computer, and finally went on a walk with mum on the canal trail, which was refreshing. Since, I have read, perused the internets, and viewed television. Nothing terribly exciting.
Tomorrow = yay!
