Happenings, annoyances, observations, and some photographic documentation

Last night it finally happened. Roused from my sleep at the ungoodly hour of 2:00, I listened in discontent at the babbling of drunken roommates and sibling of male roommate. Given the fact that I'm STILL sick (but I think finally in the recovery process), had a morning class, and the repeat nature of this offense, I made the decision to voice my annoyance so I wouldn't have to sit in bed frustrated and wishing I wasn't so goddammed passive. So I did. Angrily. Emotionally. In an uninhibited sort of way. I think I got my message across.

Today was a busy one. I learned some mosquito biology and then checked out some books on raptors for our conservation project. Then I came home, perused said books, and napped. Then I went to class again. My Human Impacts prof managed to cut off a chunk of one finger in a sliding door and warned us she might not be totally together due to Vicodin intake. I love that class. She's inadvertently funny just due to her age and mannerisms. Apparently if one's finger is severed at or above the distal-most joint reattachment is not done.

I read and studied for my systematics quiz in the lounge and then took the quiz. Woo, five out of five. I'm getting those little bats down. Exam #1 is on Monday. Normally I'd be worried about this due to the fact that I'll be occupied all weekend, but I actually feel ready for it now. I just need to make sure I know that mustelids differ from procyonids in total number of teeth. I mistook a ringtail cat skull for a mustelid. Other than that I feel pretty confident in my abilities. So yay.

After systematics I talked to some young fish and wildlifers about CCF. Unfortunately there's always an abundance of incoming students who think big game biologists get to do hands-on field work constantly. It's a harsh world out there folks. I mean, unless you go to Africa and do safari tours or become a big game hunting guide....

Oh yes, and the Right-to-Lifers on campus did their annual wooden crosses in the quad representing how many abortions take place in the U.S. daily. If your main argument resembles "that aborted fetus could've turned out to be the next Einstein," you need to re-examine the feminist argument. And the whole "we can't even feed the existing population" thing. And the fact that this nation is like the most wasteful in the world.

Yay good for you on calling them out on *their* late night noise!

Complete solidarity on the idiocy that is the annual "let's see how many popsicle stick crosses we can stick in the university grounds!" contest. An English prof & his History prof wife wrote on op-ed on the problems with this ridiculously insulting analogy between the Holocaust/ WWs & abortion. I wrote a response (mine is the "Re: facts" post, you'll know it's mine because it's the only sustained comment that's written in readable prose) because the level of stupid was making my head hurt.

And because I'm procrastinating from prepping for a meeting with my advisor tomorrow... =/

After which I'm going to order your long overdue Sigg bottle!!! I want to see if they've got any new designs for 2008...
