I'm already tired and it's not even 10..this cannot be a good sign. I think I got all nervous and apprehensive about the first day of college classes last night; woke up at 4:30 in the morning and never really got back to slumbering. I got up about 7:45..yeah, that's disgustingly early for me. I really don't even need to get up before 8 anyway, since my first one is at 9. But at least I had a plentiful bounty of time for cheerios and convincing myself I wasn't preparing to head out on a fatal mission. I got to math about 15 minutes before 9 and the classroom was already practically filled. Must've been enthused about math. The professor seems really nice, he's actually retired from the math department and is now only teaching this lower level algebra class. I've done a bit of reviewing and it seems possible. It's weird..the class is just 50 minutes. Seems way short compared to high school. Next up I had to power walk over to principles of conservation. Since the prof. is on his honeymoon until next week, the main fisheries and wildlife adviser is substituting. So all we did was go over the syllabus and then got out 25 minutes in advance. Back at the co-op I waited around for lunch, picked up my refund check at the MU (annoying news regarding that issue shortly), and then ate before going to geology. I have to print out my textbook. Since the prof. wrote the thing and it's not available until December, we all have to print out 300 pages. Fun fun. It'll actually be cheaper than buying it. But still! I guess learning about tectonic plates is worth it. My apologies for this huge block of text. Occasionally blogger freaks out and prohibits me from using the "enter" key. After geology I ended up accidentally wandering into a residential section. Oops. At least I covered that one up by suavely turning and walking around the block like I knew where I was heading. If one has a purposeful gait and steady stare, it appears that they are not pathetically directionally challenged and/or lost. So I went back to the co-op and sat around rather undecided, observed people smoking unknown substance outside (tobacco, fruit, and molasses...what!?), had house meeting which lasted until 6. Umm, that check for nearly $2,000...I'm not just going to get to keep that and save it for next year. Totally forgot that board bill from the lodge isn't included in the university bill, so I'll have to pay roughly $500 per term for food. Oh well. $500 is better than nothing, I really can't complain. Told Becky to quell her envious state, and she just commented, "hahaha..there's a German word that means "taking pleasure in another's misfortune." So Rachel is moving to another room where she'll be staying with a roommateless person. So now I'm in a four person room with only one other person. I fear that if anyone gets transferred they'll be assigned to here though..so who knows. I've done my conservation class readings, and some math...and tomorrow just two classes starting late. Oh, one super cool thing about today: received email from department person about a volunteer opportunity for students. I might end up getting to go to LaGrande for three days in late October to assist wildlife biologists in collecting tissue samples from deer to test for diseases! It sounds like it would be an awesome deal. Hunter check point station as well as observing wild mule and blacktail deer in captivity for signs of CWD, hair loss syndrome, and bovine TB. So we'll see..I'd have to get a resume together soon, but that shouldn't be a problem. Ok, I guess that's about the extent of what happened today. I'm going to attempt to find a ride home for Friday soon.
